[FLASH] CoreWeave debt slides into distress; record CDS spread puts AI-infrastructure credit in focus
The Motley Fool reported that CoreWeave's five-year CDS hit a record of roughly 1,195bp on Oct 15 and that some of its bonds traded near 79% of face value. The stock closed down 11.91% at $61.39 on Oct 16. Reuters reported that yields on bonds CoreWeave sold in June at 9.675% reached 15% this week, and quoted 9fin's Max Frumes calling the company 'absolutely the canary in the coal mine' for AI-linked debt. Deutsche Bank's Jim Reid said overall AI financing costs 'aren't dramatic' but there are 'worrying themes at the edges.' Things to watch are whether stress spreads to neocloud peers such as Nebius and Iren, which Reuters said fell by similar amounts, and the cost of any new AI-linked debt deals.
