[DEVELOPING] DHS orders US federal civilian agencies to stop buying and remove DeepSeek products, incl. third-party uses

A DHS order under the Federal Acquisition Supply Chain Security Act, posted for public inspection Oct 19 and published Oct 20, directs federal civilian agencies to drop DeepSeek products from procurement and remove them from their systems. The order also covers third-party products built on DeepSeek. Agencies have 60 days to request exceptions, and the order does not apply to private use. China's foreign ministry objected. TechCrunch also cited a Bloomberg report that China may impose export controls on AI technologies. Open questions are how agencies will treat DeepSeek models hosted on US servers and how China responds.
