[DEVELOPING] NYT and three other papers sue Brave, alleging its index resold scraped content to AI firms
The New York Times, and in a separate suit the Daily News, Chicago Tribune and Orlando Sentinel, sued Brave in federal court in Manhattan. The papers allege Brave built a 30B-page index with an unidentified, unblockable crawler and sold paid access to its content to AI companies including Anthropic, Perplexity and xAI, none of which are defendants. The case targets the data-supply layer beneath AI answer engines, where content licensing costs feed directly into answer-engine economics. Brave's response and any motion practice on the index-access claims are next.
