[FLASH] OpenAI put September run-rate near $50B, below the ~$70B figure in circulation; AI chip and cloud names fell

The FT first reported that OpenAI told investors its annualized revenue was almost $50B at end-September. Reuters and CNBC confirmed the figure separately. Per Reuters' source, the gap from the roughly $70B figure seen earlier comes mainly from accounting: unlike Anthropic, OpenAI does not count sales made through cloud partners. On Oct 8, Stocktwits reported NVDA -2.9%, AMD -3.9% and MU -4.8%, with the Nasdaq Composite down 1.3%. That shows how sensitive the AI hardware complex is to data points on lab monetization. Bloomberg then reported, citing unnamed sources, that OpenAI expects to reach at least $70B annualized by year-end, and Nasdaq 100 futures rose after that report. Still to watch: whether the year-end target is confirmed in OpenAI's reported $30B+ raise and in IPO-related disclosures.
