[FLASH] AI stocks slide after Amodei and Altman back a slowdown of frontier development

Anthropic's Dario Amodei published a Saturday essay arguing AI firms should pull back on advancing their most powerful models on safety grounds, and OpenAI's Sam Altman said he agreed on pacing the frontier. Semiconductors bore the selling: Nvidia fell ~3.4% and the PHLX semiconductor index dropped almost 6%, its worst day since early July, with AMD, Intel and Marvell down 5-6%. The move split the tape rather than sinking it uniformly, and it runs against President Trump's Sunday pushback that restraining US firms would let China gain.
