[UPDATE] Perplexity open-sources SPACE agent sandbox; Akamai, Crusoe and CoreWeave line up deployment
On Oct 15, Perplexity released SPACE as open source. SPACE is the VM-based sandbox that runs its Computer agent sessions. Akamai launched it on its cloud, Crusoe is adding it to its managed AI services, and CoreWeave published deployment guidance. Semafor reported Perplexity's claim that nine frontier models failed to escape the sandbox in testing; Perplexity's own post gives a different attempt count (108) from Semafor's (118). Agent containment is becoming a contested layer, and Semafor noted that Nvidia offers a similar open-source tool.
