CNBC published an inside account on 2026-08-13 of SK Hynix's commitment to spend about $720bn expanding its domestic fabrication network through 2034, aiming to triple capacity, with chairman Chey Tae-won interviewed on the programme. The investable step underneath it is dated a week earlier: the board signed off on 2026-08-07 on a first tranche of roughly $38bn for the Yongin Y2 DRAM/HBM plant and the Cheongju M17 facility. SK Hynix held 58% of the high-bandwidth memory market in Q1 against 21% each for Samsung and Micron, and raised $26.5bn in a July Nasdaq listing; the Korean memory names nonetheless fell under heavy foreign selling on 2026-08-06, so capex scale and equity direction are pointing opposite ways.
