[DEVELOPING] Morgan Stanley sizes a 38GW US data-centre power gap through 2028 as GE Vernova orders build

US data centres are estimated to need a further 68GW of electricity between 2026 and 2028, of which only about 15GW is under construction and another 15GW covered by available or contracted grid capacity, leaving a gap near 38GW. GE Vernova booked $2.4B of electrification equipment orders for data centres in the first quarter alone, exceeding its full-year 2025 total, and introduced GridOS for Transmission in June 2026 to orchestrate fast-growing loads. Gartner separately projects global data-centre electricity use of 565TWh in 2026 at roughly 132GW of demand, with AI-optimised servers taking about 31%. Desk context: the power-equipment layer holds four buy signals today in GEV, VRT, PWR and, at the facility layer, one sell in DLR.
